Winter Festival – C’est la fete Encore

There are many festivals throughout the year which are celebrated in this country. Each part of India is different and each region has a different occasion to celebrate. Amidst all these celebrations you have a kind of unity which you may call the festive bond.
One of the many festivals held in India, is the winter festival that is held annually in the December in the region of Mount Abu in Rajasthan. It has the dubious distinction of being the only hill station in Rajasthan. In fact Mt. Abu is also called the “Oasis of Rajasthan.”
With the beautiful background of the Aravalli Mountains, Mount Abu has the best variety of greenery with the lush verdant expanse dominating the entire region. The entire area of Mount Abu is dotted with stupendous waterfalls which add to the tourist attraction.
With all this in tow, Mount Abu is also famous as the site of the Winter Festival. There is a hubbub of activity in the month of December as people from all over the world and also India come here to enjoy the beauty of the Winter Festival.
With more than million tourists dominating the scene during the Winter Festival in Mount Abu, it is no wonder that it is slowly becoming a hot favourite in an Indian tour. Who wouldn’t want to come to this land of Dilwara Jain temples and marble art and also enjoy the ambience of a festival?
The three day Winter Festival is an endeavour by the Tourism Ministry of Rajasthan and is the outcome of the effort taken by the Rajasthan Government to attract tourists from all across the world. This festival gives the citizens of India and the people in the world the much needed reason to celebrate and enjoy in this beautiful town at this time.
This is an attempt to appreciate the beauty of Mount Abu and the heartwarming sights that it gives to all those who come here. The RTDC or the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation has its hotel Shikhar and the festivities start here. Then the celebrations proceed up the hill and spread everywhere.
The main features of the festival are the hospitality of the locals, the lovely tradition and culture and obviously the exotic location of Mt. Abu. There are processions taken out in full colour and the serene surrounding of the Nakki Lake is the end point. Folk songs are sung and many dances performed. Troupes from all over India come here and showcase their talent.
Competitions are held and events organized. Sports like cricket and water sports are conducted. The final day is the best day with a fitting end to this lovely kaleidoscope of art, talent, and passion combined under one roof – The Winter Festival. There is an extravagant display of fireworks on the last day and the entire experience is beyond imagination.
So come 31st December, along with welcoming the New Year, also celebrate the Winter Festival in Mt. Abu.
