What To Do At Night ? Where To Shop? When In Kuala Lumpur

During the day, the working offices and shopping malls are the centre of activity but come night, the clubs and discos take over. Kuala Lumpur have many diverse culture coming together, thus the night life here is some what dull. Even after being a Muslim country alcohol is freely available freely in the country. The legal age for having alcohol is minimum 21yrs. The Government of Kuala Lumpur is quite strict and thus closed down the pubs and bars at night one, but many of them become successful to be kept open even after that.

Kuala Lumpur’s city centre along with many other such urban hotspots, light up with the excitement and enthusiasm at night as the crowd of youngsters hits the clubs, bars and pubs of the city. All such activities begin from 10 pm onwards though some of the nightspots do open earlier.

Karaoke one of the most popular activities is often seen around mostly among the Chinese who love the oldies and contemporary pop music.

For night-time excitement in this big city, you can head to the areas of Bukit Bintang, Ampang/P.Ramlee and Sultan Ismail. And for those who seek quieter, but no less vibrant, night outs should go straight and check out Bangsar and Sri Hartamas. The once abandoned 80 year old house which is located just off Jalan Sultan Ismail and right next to Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur have become one of the city’s frequently visited destination as far as exciting and vibrant nightlife is concerned. The street has a distinct European feel to it.

Kuala Lumpur is one of the most well-known shopping destinations across the globe with several prominent malls and shopping areas. For budget to mid-range shopping, head to Petaling Street (in Chinatown) or Bukit Bintang to enjoy a wide range of fashion, electronics and other commodities. KLCC is an upmarket shopping location, known for the Suria KLCC mall located between the Twin Towers while Mid Valley is an exciting one-stop destination for shopping parked in a strategic area of Kuala Lumpur.

Awarded as the best Shopping Complex by Tourism of Malaysia in 1996 and 1997, Sungei Wang Plaza has been around nearly for more than two decades and is one of the oldest institutions in the Bukit Bintang area. It is still attracting thousands of visitors even after all these years and despite being surrounded with more glamorous competition, Sungei Wang Plaza houses more than 500 retail outlets selling everything from food to clothes, with the topmost floor dedicated to fashion for youth from a variety of home-grown labels. These days KL has became a major shopping destination across the world. KL has a number of high-end malls which provides local as well as international brands. Kuala Lumpur itself has nearly 66 shopping malls.

Most shops are open all week days from 9 am to 5 pm, while the malls open later from 10am to 10pm. Some shops close on Sundays but all of the malls are open. Sales tax is generally around 10%, although some products are taxed at 5% or 15%, or are exempt from sales tax. Tax-free shopping is available; if notified before payment, the shop will give the visitor a form, which can be presented at the airport for refund upon departure.
