Having a populations of nearly 3.5 million people the traffic of Hanoi is very busy and the city streets runs pack as most of the locals are using their own vehicle that too mostly two-wheeler. Don’t be shocked if you see a complete family of five people traveling on a single bike. This is the real life of Hanoi. The sidewalks here are not meant for walking but parking of bicycles, cars and bikes. Also many bikes are parked at the people’s home.

The most popular means of public transport within the city are motorbikes, buses, taxis, and Cyclos. Motorbikes remain the most commonly used vehicle to move across the city. Public buses run on various routes across the city and the fare can be purchased on the bus itself. If you are first time goers to the city be prepared to get shocked by seeing the public transportation in the city. The most easily available transport option in Hanoi is the Cyclo, it is nothing but a pedal rickshaw where maximum two people can easily travel. Moreover Cyclo is quite reasonable. While in cyclo you can travel in the old section of the city. You would definitely find yourself at the ease while using a cyclo. Make sure that you decide the fare of the Cyclo before boarding it as the driver may ask for additional amount once you reach your required destination. Also make sure that your luggage is well packed else they can be a victim of the thieves on the motorbike. Remember many of the drivers don’t speak English.

Every street in the market has its own specialty for example few streets are famous for silk while other for metal and hanoi taxifew for CD’s. The traffic at the injection of roads is very fast and quite scary. Don’t try to stop the taxi or cross the traffic at interjection point.

In Hanoi you would find taxi of two kind’s namely big taxi operated by Hanoi Taxi and the other one called smaller taxi. The big taxi is much safer than that of the smaller taxis. Also there is always some or other problem with the meter of the smaller taxi.

Public transport in Hanoi is very much limited as you don’t have many options. The other option than taxi and Cyclo’s are the public buses. They are relatively cheap, but the only problem with the buses is that they are very much slow due to the over- crowded city streets. Moreover traveling in buses for outsiders is very much difficult due to the problem in communication.

hanoi motorbikeRenting a cars or a motor bike is one of the best options available for the tourist but don’t thinking of driving them yourself as it can prove dangerous to your life. All the cars come with the driver and/or a guide thus it would be less pain-staking for you. Motorbike taxis are also easy and economical way for traveling across the city.
