In the Southern province of Fukien and Kwangtung, China, and if you are an avid kite flyer, there is an amazing kite flying competition held every year and a must visit destination for kite enthusiasts.
At the Foochow Kite Festival, the kites displayed are immense mean machines with greatest ingenuity of design and heavens are flooded with thousands of colourful kites and are launched by men from the roof top of their homes or work places, and at times standing on the edge of a wall or a stool to get their kites flying once the breeze settles and gains steadiness.
Offensive action is acceptable to beat the rivals and some of the strings used are sharp and cut the other kites with intensity and also inflict injuries to the rival, and the conflict in the sky is accompanied by the huge roar of the crowds and it is widely believed that this festival of kite flying is arranged to get rid of ill fortune and miseries of life, as when the strain is taken off the cord and kite is set free it falls on the ground and it is believed that destruction of the kite symbolises the destruction of ill luck.
In the evening, the crowds stay on after drink, drinking and dining and the evening shines up colourful lights and gives hope and happiness to the locals, and you may take part in the kite flying and wash away your ill luck.
