Rajasthan in India is a land of fairs, festivals and colours. The vibrant nature of the place along with the beauty that abounds here is something that makes the place a kaleidoscope of travel pleasures.

The Bikaner Camel Festival is one such occasion that gives the tourist a reason to visit this lovely land and get merged with the colours and vibrance here. Come the month of January and this place gets agog with this unique festival that is organized by the Department of tourism, Art and culture. The Government of Rajasthan proudly showcases the rich culture of the Rajasthan region and India becomes a hub of tourist activity during this season. An annual festival this fascinates tourists to no end and is held every year in the month of January. With the desert folk dances, and the related music that dominates the festival, the charm and grace that is exuded here is seen to be believed. This exclusive affair is something that has put India on the top of festive events across the world. Camels are a major tourist attraction in Rajasthan and the fact that these ships of the desert have an event exclusively for them makes this an altogether enchanting experience. So get ready for some great performances, spectacles and exhibition of the best form of Rajasthan culture. So you would have the camel dances, camel races, camel rides and would get the best of these gorgeous desert beauties.

Bikaner Camel Festival

The Bikaner Camel festival begins with the lovely processions of the camels which showcases the camels in their best decorative splendour. The procession then reaches the sand grounds. The festivities then begin with great energy and fervour. There is the Camel Pageant that is held on the very first day. The camel owners are seen showing off their prized camels in fine resplendent jewellery and decorations. The scene is incomparable and cannot be related to any other festival in India. Then there are camel dance events wherein the revelers just go berserk supporting their favourite camel. Then there are competitions held for camel milking, for fur cutting design, for dancing and for many other feats of the camels. The bridles are decorated and the camels have their necks completely studded with jewels. The camels look beautiful with their lovely anklets and the tall lanky animal on the dusty sands seems to totally dazzle the entire place with its resplendent beauty.

As the tourists enjoy the sights and revel in celebration, there are snacks of tea and sweets prepared out of camel milk that are distributed and made available for all.

Then the second day sees the camel race event. Look at the fiery competition amongst these beauties and enjoy rooting for the winner. There is lot of cheering and excitement as the onlookers encourage the camels to run in the race.

Both the days have some great Rajasthan folk dance extravaganza in the evenings and it is wonderful to see the colorful skirts and dazzling Rajasthan costumes swirling to the beat of the music and beat in the background. The fire dance is another added spectacle which totally mesmerize and enchant the tourist and it is certainly a great event to attend in this part of the year. The finale of the festival is had by having a display of fireworks which is another interesting fare.

Bikaner has always been a land that was never accessible easily. So when there were no vehicles here, then the camel was the main mode of transport.

The Bikaner Camel Festival is a way of showing gratitude and respect to this beast.
