Overwhelming Experience At The Ladakh Music Festival

Ladakh, the crown of India, creates magic every year when the Ladakh music festival is held here. The percussion heavy four day music festival held every year is an unforgettable experience.

The music festival starts under the unconditional climate like sandstorms, rains, chilling cold, but the show goes on with tremendous good spirit, fuelled by warm Ladakhi hospitality and hot yak butter tea. The rains is so rare in Ladakh that it is considered a lucky omen if it rains during this significant festival.

The Ladakh Music Festival

The Ladakh music festival apart from the musical performances by artists from all over the world also has a healing camp. The festival kick starts with the procession by the Buddhists monks and the atmosphere at the festival is bonhomie with impromptu performances taking place across the festival site. As the afternoon sun blazed, one of the most striking performances is by the most venerable Bhikshu gyomo nakamura who also happens to be the founder of Lehs famed Shanti Stupa.

At the kids tents rob of the famed pogo TV wows young kids with innovative techniques of painting and craft, and leading circus performers are at action.

Healing camps features Pranic and astrological healers, sessions of meditation, and Singing –bowl therapies.

Ladakhi folk songs, famous Carnatic vocalists, santoor player like Rahul Sharma, Mumbai bands like tribal flora,  and many groups from the western music world like Terrakota from Portugal and many other countries who leave  the audiences exhilarated with high energy set of complex rhythms, reggae beats, power percussion, and brilliant tunes and dancing.

The thunder drums ritual performed at the end of the festival appease the rain Gods and the rain stops, but magic of Ladakh festival lingers in your mind for a long time.
