Multi-Cultured Jakarta’s Various Festivals

Being a multi cultured city, Jakarta faces criss-cross between many cultures. Jakarta has a rich history of Kings, trade, wars and conquests. With every invasion the city had faced several changes in the local people, their culture and traditions too. This city has always regained their culture and traditions.

Since many ethnic groups reside in Jakarta, you will find every one having their own share of beliefs, customs, traditions, rituals etc. As a result Jakarta got a mixed culture for itself. Thus in Jakarta you will find a variety of festivals celebrated by all the locals of the city while some exclusive for some of the ethnic groups.

Every year four New Year celebrations are observed in Jakarta. The different communities such as Islamic, Chinese jazz festivaland Balinese have their own new year depending on their dates in their own lunar calendars. December 31st is celebrated with lots of excitement all across the city and always an excuse is available to party hard.

Jakarta International Jazz Festival is a yearly event in Jakarta for all jazz musicians. A number of musician from all around the world come to Jakarta for a week for the festival of the incredible music.

The capital city of Indonesia does celebrate its existence with a huge round ball party; there are many fairs across the city with king and queen.

Jakarta FairThe seven days Jakarta fair is a tourism and cultural fair organized for the promotion of various regions in the city. The most important element during this fair is the traditional dance and music.

Indonesia Grand Prix is a world renowned auto-race festival that takes place in the Ancol circuit.

The two days kite flying festivals is one of the most exciting festivals. The sky above the Jakarta city is filled with colorful kites flying high up. Flying kites is supposed to be the oldest pastimes in Jakarta.

Ramadan is one the most holy festival in Islamic cultural where Muslim locals have a month long fast where they not just avoid  food but also water, drinking, smoking, having sex etc. All this activities are banned during daylight hours.

Soul nation Festival is a fun filled and energetic music festival. Music of every genre from across all around the world is presented here also the stage is shared by locally talented musician and singers.

Idul Fitri Week is the last week of fasting in the month of Ramadan it also marks the end of Ramadan. During this festival you will find Muslim locals enthusiastically buy gifts, costumes etc. Family and friends reunion takes places and, common prayers are made and gifts are also exchanged.

Jakarta Film Festival is the biggest film festival in Indonesia which is celebrated in the nation’s capital in every winter. During the festivals both regional and international filmmakers are showcashed.

Even if mostly all the festivals and events are meant for the locals, you can always as a tourist, participate in the festival. It may be difficult for you to get along in the mood but there is always something new to witness when you are in Jakarta. The beauty and celebration mood of the city will definitely attract you.
