Making Your Way Through Crowded Streets Of Jakarta

Jakarta is the main transportation for not just the city but also Java and rest of the nation. Also due to the increasing number of the tourist is the city, Jakarta have became the gateway to Indonesia. Jakarta is well connected to the world by the means of airways, roadways, railways as well as waterways.Transportation in Jakarta is affordable as well as easy. There are a number of transportation options available in the city. Wherever you want to go in the city you will find one or other suitable option for you.

Being one of the most populated cities in the world, Jakarta has severe transportation problems. In Indonesia most common local transport is provided by mikrolets, which are nothing but privately run minibuses. Even thought there are many wide roads, Jakarta faces lot of problem due to the traffic jams. Three-in-one rule during the rush hours was introduced on many wide roads of Jakarta. Jakarta bajajTo reduce traffic jams, some major roads in Jakarta that prohibited cars having less than 3 passengers on certain roads.

If you are looking for the most simple traveling option look for a bright orange colored noisy vehicle, the vehicle is nothing but Bajaj. Bajaj is a common bright colored rickshaw. In Bajaj seat two passengers can comfortably accommodate, depending on the size of the passenger maximum 5 people can use one Bajaj.  Fare can be easily bargained. Do remember to ask the local what he would have paid for the particular destination. A ride in a bajaj has an option of nature’s air conditioning. The ride will be definitely noisy, bumpy and making you smell everything you come across. Be prepared for the adventure.

Bemo is another noisy vehicle which is used for public transportation within limited areas of Jakarta. Bemo was originally brought to Indonesia, as apart of disaster relief package in 1962 by the Japanese government. Large number Bemo is not Bemomanufactured in Indonesia. Bemo are mostly found in use near the areas of Benhil, Tanjung Priok, Kramat Jati and other such areas outside Jakarta.

Many bus companies have their service in Jakarta. The accommodation in the bus is of about 25-40 depending on the type of bus. The fare of these buses is before hand decided and posted on the bus. The buses do not have a schedule. Students wearing uniform have concessions in the fare. If you don’t know the fare, ask the fellow passenger and pays it to the conductor. Buses are the most common transport of the masses.

Delman is perhaps the only traditional public transportation left in Jakarta. Delman is nothing but horse-drawn carriages. These days it’s getting harder to spot Delman in Jakarta nowadays. Most commonly they are used to transport goods from major markets. Delman can often found around the streets of Pasar Palmerah, Kemanggisan, Cipulir. Delman are easily available on Sunday for full day tour on the roads surrounding Monas. The locals usually use delman for fun rides for the kids.

Jakarta bus
Every day a commuter train runs several times between Bogor and Jakarta. These trains are quite simple and often dirty. Many passengers try to avoid paying the fare by traveling on the top of the train.
