Matheran is a Hill Station located near Mumbai, Karjat.   It is located 800 meters above sea level in the Jambol Forest of Maharashtra.  It was found by Hugh Poynts Malet in May 1850.  It spreads over an area of 8 square kilometers in Sahyadri Mountains.  It is one of the best places to spend a two-day holiday if you are in Mumbai or in the vicinity of Mumbai or its suburbs.  To reach Matheran,  [...]

Island Shangri – La Hong Kong

Posted on January 19, 2011 | Hotels2 Comments

Welcome to the tallest hotel in Hong Kong! Consider Island Shangri-La Hong Kong as a treat of ultimate luxury, which toughly competes with the majestic ones of London. With over 700 Viennese chandeliers, 500 artworks, luxuriant Tai Ping carpets, and creative flower arrangements, this is my best pick. The unique feature of this hotel is its 17-storey atrium that is the home of a private lounge, soaring antique library, and a grand 16-storey Chinese painting that was made via 40 Beijing artists who rendered it to be the world’s biggest landscape painting. One more admirable aspect of the Island Shangri-La Hong Kong is its location from where the Hong Kong Park, shopping centers of Causeway Bay as well as Pacific Place, and the Exhibition and Convention Center are easily reachable in just 15 minutes.

There are 565 guestrooms that ring the atrium and offer the great vistas of the Peak or the magnificent Victoria Harbor. So, there are two main room types, Deluxe Harbor View and Horizon Peak View, completely non-smoking! Expect the same amenities, but different views, as the name suggests. There are a total of five at Island Shangri-La Hong Kong. At the Restaurant Petrus, you can indulge in modern French cuisine featuring delicious vegetarian dishes. Offering all the three meals of the day, you will really love this place for its harbor views. This is the award-winning one (Michelin two-star rating). Otherwise casual, its dinner dress code is jacket. One more Michelin starred choice is the Summer Palace that is an expert in offering the Cantonese cuisine with vegetarian options. This one is only open for lunch and dinner.

Japanese cuisine at Nadaman is just best served by its Japanese chefs. Expect separate Sushi area as well as a private room along with a la carte dinner. Lunch too is served here. Nestled on the level seven, its floor-to-ceiling windows offer some great views too. At cafe TOO on level seven, there are different cooking areas offering international cuisines. However, it is famous for its desserts as well as salads served from early morning till late. Island Gourmet refers to a dedicated tea room where fresh pastries, sandwiches, breads, and chocolates are served from early morning till evening on level five.
