Festive Eve In Phnom Penh

The festivals and the events that take place in the city of Phnom Penh are wonderful get-together of the oldest rituals of the city and the latest developed culture of the place. This exotic mixture of the new and the old makes the festivals and the events very much exciting. They play a very important role in attracting a huge number of tourists visiting such a great city from every corner of the world. So lets you a quick look at the city’s top festivals and events.

Bonn Chroat Preah Nongkoal is a royal rice ploughing festival in Phnom Penh in the month of May every year. It marks the beginning of the ploughing season.

Water Festival on the Banks of the Mekong is one of the oldest festivals in Phnom Penh. It is an annual celebration for the cities river. It is also known as Bon Om Tuk, and on the day of the event boat rowing competition is also held. You can see colorful fireworks in the sky during the event. The fishing season starts just after the festival. Held in the month of November this is a must-see for the numerous tourists coming to the city.

The visual arts open is an art festival held in the Phnom Penh city for the celebration of the finest today’s artist of Cambodia. This event takes places in the month of December.

Bonn Chaul Chhnam is the celebration of Khmers New Year. It is celebrated on the 14, 15 and 16 of April every year. These three days are celebrated after the end of harvest season. It is a happy time every house is cleaned and they make offerings and also play traditional games. Few of the traditional games are tug of war, Chaol Chhoung, Boh Angkunh, Leak Kansaeng etc.

A religious festival called Bonn Kathen is celebrated in month of October in Phnom Penh where the clothes are donatedBonn Kathen to the monks.

Birthday of His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk is one of the precious festivals of the city. The birthday is celebrated on from October 30 to November 1 every year. A huge celebration is held throughout the city. In front of the Royal Palace ground huge fireworks are displayed.

National and International visitors can always expect a huge blast on the New Year eve. There is hustle bustle all over the city. The city is decorated. Many live music programs are arranged near the rivers banks. Also the fireworks colourful display is one of the must-see for all those tourist who are expecting to visit the city on the new year eve.

Vesak Bucha Day is celebrated in the month of May. The day is celebrated in order to remember the birth, death, enlightenment and passing of Buddha.
