As for the latter counterpart of the Island of Tobago, it derived its name from something that resembled the shape of a cigar, and hence the name came to be so. As simple as that! Although, Trinidad originally was under the control of the Spanish forces, a deal was struck in order to let the Roman Catholics make way into the place along with their fleet of slaves, on a condition that they be faithful to the kingdom of Spain. This led to the population getting tripled just within a short while after the deal had its impact. The whole rush of people however did not make a very damaging impact, as the place was already not very populated and hence could bear the inward movement of people.

The people coming in possessed a diverse mix of background, ranging from Spanish influences to British, Italian and also members of the Pirates Association, including some of the Frenchmen.

Tobago, however faced the kingdom of Dutch, The English and also the French.
