The Jaipur Elephant Festival takes place in the Chaughan Stadium in Jaipur and is normally held during the eve of Holi. It is normally held from 4 p.m to 7 p.m. in the middle of the Old city of Jaipur. Lying to the north of the Tripolia Gate and the City palace, this city is a popular destination for all those who wish to be a part of the festivals and fairs that are held in this land of sandy delights – Rajasthan.

The Festival

The Elephant festival starts with a procession of the decorated elephants that walk up the streets of Jaipur towards the stadium. The elephants are seen to proudly display their wares and walk down the street as if they are the models and the street is the catwalk. . The festival is akin to a fashion display and the elephants the models in the fashion show. So as the elephants come parading down, it is a sight to behold and an experience to cherish. With the beauty contests held for the elephants the audience cheers them on, and the folk dances later on, only reinforce the faith that the state of Rajasthan has on the culture of the region. There are tug of war between elephants and the locals enjoy the show. Tourists from across the world come here and enjoy the festival specially Celebrated for the elephants.

Earlier the festival also had the elephant polo which is a great sport which is interesting. Today this sport is missing in the festival in the recent years.

Some tips to participate in the Elephant festival

The tourist seating area gets filled very fast so come to this venue early enough to get a good seat and a good view.

As the elephants walk through the Old City, the sight looks spectacular. These processions usually start from Ravindra Manch which is very near Ram Niwas. This place is opposite the Sanganeri Gate. The procession starts at around 10.30 in the morning.

Walk around the city of Jaipur and enjoy the sights that the city has to give you and it is very interesting to be here during the festival of Holi and if the elephant festival is also on during this time.

The elephant is one of the most respected animals in the methodical tales of India. This is one of the nine jewels that came from the ocean as a result of the churning of the ocean. This churning of the ocean was done to get the elixir of immortality and life.

There is another spectacular performance by the elephants by way of the elephant fights which are so interesting to see. Also watch these giant animals showing their might and strength and the entire feeling is very fascinating and filled with excitement. These elephant fights show how the might and the ferociousness nature of these wild animals actually come out in full flow. Besides the elephants you also have the chariots, horses, camels, and lancers and also the well decorated palanquins constitute the elephant fair displays.
