Entertainment at evenings in Marrakech has a wide range. It has discos, belly dancing, traditional and simple entertainment at cafes in medina and also around Djemma el Fna, as well a good bars and clubs that stay open till late. Marrakech is perhaps the most liberated of all cities of the North African country of Morocco, when it comes to nightlife and drinking.

Marrakech barsSome restaurants also serve good music with good food.

Most of the bars are in the hotels here and they are also the preferred ones. The Hotel Tazi bar is more of a TV lounge with a good stock of imported and local beers. The Piano bar at Hotel Jardins de la Koutoubia has a romantic ambience where you can listen to your requests played by the pianist, while you are sipping your cocktail by the pool.

Le Churchill at Hotel La Mamounia is posh bar with a Moorish décor, where you have to have a proper dress. Le Comptoir is a trendy bar cum restaurant. Palias Jad Mahal too is good.

Hotel La Mamounia
Gueliz in Marrakech has some good bars around. At Mohammed V road, there are a couple of bars like the Chesterfield Pub, the Café Bar de l’Escale and Gali Galou.

The clubs in Marrakech are an expensive deal and are more of a noisy disco than a nice club. Pacha Marrakech at Mohhamed VI Boulevard has international DJs and is jam-packed on weekends. Teatro is famous for its white night Saturdays. Diamont Noir in Hotel le Marrakech has a comfortable atmosphere for gays and straight alike.

Eating out

The city of Marrakech has variety of options when it comes to eating out. These restaurants serve cuisines from all Marrakech restaurantover the country and you always do not have to spend a heavy amount of food here, unless of course, you want to indulge yourself in a luxurious service. One of the restaurants that give a good deal at a reasonable price is Al Fassi that serves delicious dishes from the Middle Atlas and Fez. On offer here is a selection of meat dishes, tagines and couscous as well as alcohol amidst a plush modern décor. Dar Moha, within the normal range, serves a Moroccan fusion cuisine and alcohol, with music in the evenings at the garden. For a French cuisine, Pavilion is where you should head to. Jardin des Arts, about 5 minutes drive away from Gueliz too serves French food including pork dishes and has a decent wine list as well. Le Grand Café de la Poste and Le Marrakchi too are decent eating joints.

Jnane Tamsa that has Moroccan-Mediterranean menu and Le Comptoir, the city’s favourite hang out place with Franco-Moroccan menu are some posh restaurants of the city.

Among those suiting a tight budgeted tourists are the Café de France with a roof top arrangement at Djemma el-Fna.  Chez Chergouni that is good for vegetarians and Pizzeria Venezia close to the Koutoubia Mosque. The Djemma el Fna with its more than 100 food stalls is a delight in itself for foodies with café houses like Café Agrana where you must try pastille, a sweet savory pie and Café Almahara that will attract you to its rooftop for a late night coffee.

Overall, Marrakech has a lively night scene, though a little expensive one  with most of the bars and clubs being in hotels, if drinking is what’s on your mind.
