Celebration Time In Singapore

Singapore is a multi-cultured country thus every ethnic group living in the city celebrates their own festivals. You would be simply surprised to see some or the other festival being celebrated every now and than through out the city for the whole year. Thus you will find continuous celebrations going on in the city. Every festival in the city is been enjoyed by the maximum population. The people of Singapore are very much peace and harmony loving thus they respect each others tradition and join each other’s festival with great enthusiasm and excitement.

You will find many colorful festivals and exciting events in Singapore. Every year in Singapore starts with the celebration of Chinese New Year which is been celebrated by the majority of the Chinese population. Two days public holiday is declared for the preparation of celebration of the New Year. Every house in the city is cleaned and water spring to welcome the New Year. Singapore Fashion FestivalDuring the Chinese New Year do visit the China town where you will surely get carried away in the festive spirit. The Bazaars are filled with lots of New Year goodies also the streets are lighten up.

Singapore Fashion Festival is mostly held in the month of March and April. Many fashion shows and exhibitions take place where the season’s trendiest fabrics, styles, colors and designs are promoted and projected to the crowd. Product launches also takes place. Shopping during the festival is an additional advantage due to the various promotions available.

Throughout Singapore Vesak festival is celebrated in the month of April or May. The birth, death, enlightenment etc of Buddha is celebrated on this day. On the day of Vesak caged birds are set free. A huge celebration takes place in the Buddhist temples where the monks celebrate the entry of Lord Buddha into Nirvana.

Celebrated in late September or early October Lantern Festival is celebrated to honor Lord Buddha. Lantern festival issingapore lantern festival celebrated just after the Chinese New Year. The festival includes the making of lantern, lightning of the houses as well as the city streets. Folk dances are been performed. Deepavali also known as Diwali is a festival of lights and color. Usually the festival of Diwali occurs in the month of October or November. It is believed that a demon named Narakasura was the king of Pradvoshapuram. He was known as the cruel king. Even being the king he used to torture the people and kidnap the women and imprison. Lord Krishna killed this cruel demon king from that day onwards Deepavali is celebrated. Diwali is basically the festival of the Hindus. The preparations of the festival start nearly two weeks before the actual festival day.On the day festivals the locals get up very early, burst crackers and have a traditional oil bath. The people light up their house with many oil lamps. New clothes are worn on the festive day. Family reunion also takes place with the exchange of sweets and gifts.
