Ban Gioc Waterfall: The heavenly paradise

Posted on October 29, 2010 | Travel DestinationsNo Comment

Most of us are only bothered to take a trip of the most heard waterfalls such as Victoria and Niagara. But, the most heard waterfalls are only some of the most famous waterfalls. So, there are still many uniquely stunning waterfalls of which one is this one – the Ban Gioc! Entitled as the Heavenly Waterfalls on the planet, these are commonly known as the Detian – Banyue Falls. The reason why they are dubbed so is the scenery formed by the two saccades on the river, Quy Xuan spanning the Sino-Vietnamese rim. Surrounded by the pretty Karst peaks, the cascade’s overall view is among the most scenic waterfalls of the country. The falls reside on the Karst hills of the Daxing area in the Chinese Guangxi province and in the Trung Khanh prefecture of Vietnam at 272 km from Hanoi.

Ban Gioc Waterfall

The Ban Gioc Waterfall is genuinely composed of two parts of which the main one is the Detian cascade of the Guichun River stretching on the Chinese land, while the Banyue Waterfall is the other one occupying the Vietnam territory. The former is regarded as the largest international cascade in the continent of Asia because it occupies the areas of both China and Vietnam. Looking at the falls from Chinese territory is very comfortable as both of them can be easily seen. On the other hand, exploring the falls from the Banyue side is not known to me as I have never tried doing so by taking the boat across.

Sharing with you some of its statistics, the waterfall boats a rising plunge of over three tiers distinguished by vegetation as well as rocks. Detian, the primary waterfall is 120 m wide and that too is accurate if you do not include the Vietnamese part as with it, it is 200 m wide. The downpour of the falls is quite strong such that the roaring effect created while hitting the cliffs is heard even at a remote distance. Further, this waterfall is the fourth largest cascade by the side of the national border after Iguazu, Victoria, and Niagara.

In order to access the main fall on the Chinese side, one needs to take up a walking track where you can enjoy the vista of many more falls as well as plunging cascades through the tropical vegetation. Do not be mad behind these falls, because the more close you are, the more dangerous they are. But, there is no harm in chilling down in the waterfall’s squirt to beat off the roasting heat and humidity. However, there is no way you can get rid of the mosquitoes. If you are interested in a more panoramic vista, dare to take up the sequence of steps that are very greasy in the months of rains. However, they will surely take you until a vantage point where you can marvel at the outstanding views of the Vietnam side falls, the overall fall, and the Karst mountains in the backdrop – a few deserving gifts.

Just besides the falls, the Tongling Gorge is worth a look and that it is also fascinating to reach here via a cavern from a close by canyon. Founded lately, this gorge is the abode of many common plant species that are indigenous only to the gorge. The grotto, as a place of escape, is thronged by the local crooks who try to hunt or burrow the riches here. Further, as this area is deep in a rainforest whose surroundings are flanked by gorges, terraces, and antique rafts; the area is so tranquil making the complete region enjoyable and refreshing.

Talking about the ideal time to come here, avoid a trip here when the flow is the lowest that is in the late April. This will give you no fun since the area will be dry. So, it is recommended to come here in late summer until the autumn.

Ban gioc Vietnam

In the olden days, the Ban Gioc waterfall was one of the vital crossings for the army of China during the small Sino-Vietnamese battle. Further, many conflicts have take place regarding the Vietnamese land of the Detian waterfall. So, you might able to only amble on a track by the side of the Guichun River that rises until the 53rd boundary marking. Hereon, avoid wandering until long distances or outside the border because the border tour rules are strict.

In order to come here, the most close by halt is Nanning, the capital of Guangxi. Daxin is the nearest city. From Nanning, you can go for a guided tour by a car, which reaches the site in some four hours.
