For a vibrant night out scene at Johannesburg, you should get to its suburbs. Suburbs like Rosebank, Rivonia, Melville and Norwood have bars, clubs and pubs oozing out on their streets. Melville for instance has Catz Pajamas, a 24 hour restaurant-cum-pub. In the Central Business District, Newtown is gaining grounds as a favourable night out area.

Eating out is a viable option here in Johannesburg, with restaurants and hotels suiting the budgets of all kinds.

Interestingly, it has a quiz night on Wednesdays. The Radium Beer Hall with live Jazz and vintage posters such as that of pre-war soccer team has good food and a comfortably decent pub. It is the one of the oldest bars around. The Pappas on the Square is a place for a Greek menu, with a good collection of wine. Cool Runnings and Ratz bar are other good bars in Johannesburg.

Restaurants and Hotels

Westcliff hotelOne of the really posh restaurants of Johannesburg is Gastronomic at Westcliff hotel that’s carved at the top of the cliffs. With a colonial décor, the place is good for a nice Sunday brunch, hot buffet which include egg Benedict, and cold buffet which include French oysters, smoked salmon among a variety of other mouth-watering items.  Le Canard with its timeless menu that includes drunken chicken is another good place for a luxury dinner. With a rich décor, Dino’s at the Bedford Shopping centre here has some good African and French cuisines.

In what was previously a mansion is Linger Longer at Sandton is another good place for a pricey dinner outing offering a romantic ambience.

Apart from these, there are restaurants that are pocket friendly and yet offering a good service. Giles with a cozy pub and Moyo Melrose Arch with a beautiful African décor and a wide range of African dishes like the Kenyan Samaki Kavu are few such restaurants in the city.

For some spicy dinner, you could check out Rodizio Bedfordview and try its specialties like Rodizo and Mozambique platter. There are bands and Latin American dancers as well, to entertain the guests.

Among some good hotels here are Backpackers Ritz within a walking distance from Hyde Park corner Mall and Stayeasy Eastgate, both quite affordable for travelers.  For those who wander around the world with a lot of money, there are luxury hotels like Palazzo Montecasino, Hotel Gold Reef City and Sunnyside Park Hotel.
